087) BARBIE LOVES THE IMPROVERS BRUNETTE STANDARD NRFB/MIB
• Barbie “steels” the spotlight in this awesome set made for the Inland Steel Container Company in the late 1960’s. The reason it was called Improvers was to honor those folks at Inland Steel Container who were making life better through the use of aluminum and steel containers in day-to-day life
• Designer Paco Rabanne had a hard job to make a glam outfit for Barbie out of “steel” and we have to say he did an incredible job!
• This set features a mint Brunette Standard Barbie with original cello on head, bright blue side glance eyes and perfect pink ribbon in hair with matching pink lips
• She has incredibly thick hair and comes packaged in her very own gift box
• Barbie Loves the Improvers is stamped on the outside of the box, which doubled as a mailing box. What is intriguing about this particular box is that no mailing label appears on the box. My guess is that in lieu of this set being mailed out, as the majority of these found were, this item was personally handed out at an Inland Steel event. Box is near mint to mint which is so hard to find.
• Accessories include World of Barbie Fashion Booklet #1, original doll box bottom, silver insert liner, original magazine article featuring information on the company, gold wire stand and her bright pink 2 pc s/s. Both the plastic Mod X stand, and gold wire stand have
been found with these sets
• Body is near mint, could use a light cleaning, arms have paled
• This dazzling set is hard to find complete
• Suggested $2495-$2795
• Barbie comes wearing a cardboard “metal” dress that hangs from a cardboard “metal” neck piece via two silver strings that were made to look like chains. There is a peek-a-boo navel cut-out. She has her HTF “metal” cuff which gives her a Warrior Woman appearance. These outfits came taped to the doll
